With support and encouragement at all administrative levels, the Center facilitated the hiring of a four-member interdisciplinary faculty cohort with synergistic areas of research and teaching. They collaborate with one another as well as with faculty from multiple disciplines across the WSU campus. Jeffery L. Ullman is in the Biosystems Engineering Department, Haluk Beyenal is in the School of Chemical Engineering and BioEngineering, Jeremy Rentz and Jennifer Adam are in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The faculty have office and laboratory space in very close proximity, optimizing interaction. Success has already been realized through awards of competitive grants and recruitment of new graduate students.
